Young People Reduce Food Waste at their New York school

In 2022, we held the Sustainability Challenge – an invitation to young people across the country to ask for a change to their food systems. We were blown away by the initiative young people took and we’d like to share their stories with you.

Today we’re highlighting a group of students at Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY – Bella, Brian, and their team investigated their local food systems and decided to ask their school to implement a composting system that reduces food waste and reduces carbon emissions. They researched a local composting company (Blue Line Compost) to pick up their waste, and talked to stakeholders in their school to ensure their new composting practice would be successful. Congratulations!
