Earth Force Educators Guide
The Community Action and Problem Solving Process is an award winning six-step model that gives you the framework to guide young people from environmental awareness and scientific inquiry to civic action for sustainable change while building community and honing leadership and civic skills. The Educators Guide provides a framework for project-based teaching and learning that can be readily adapted to any age group or topic area, as well as to a range of timeframes for working with students.
The Guide lays out a series of six steps that, taken in sequence, will lead you and your students to a civic action project that meets a real community environmental need, is of interest to them, aligns with your curricular goals, and is feasible to conduct. The tasks, decisions, and products of each step prepare you and your students for the following step’s tasks. Educators across the country use the Guide to transform their science, engineering, math, and humanities classes into exciting, student-led laboratories.
Our professional development focuses on our Community Action and Problem Solving Process, a six-step model that combines the best of civic engagement, environmental education, and STEM. Through a mix of in-person and online workshops, professional development attendees gain the skills necessary to facilitate a group of youth as they explore the root causes of a problem, identify barriers to solving the problem, and design and implement a project that addresses the root cause.
Professional development sessions range from half-day trainings to multiple day workshops. Each experience is customized to state standards and content. Educators receive a copy of our Educators Guide, Tips Cards, and one-on-one or small group follow up from certified trainers at least three times a year. These follow up sessions are tailored to the specific needs of the individual educator.
