Community Advisory Board
Earth Force Beyond the Classroom
We have an exciting opportunity for volunteers to facilitate a community-based program in the after-school environment. The Earth Force Beyond the Classroom (EFBC) program was a success as a pilot program at 6 Charleston County Kaleidoscope programs during the spring of 2008 and we hope to include more programs in 2009! Through this program, volunteers are trained to lead the students on an investigative journey that begins with identification and exploration of environmental issues around their school and culminates in a small project to improve their school community. All projects are student-generated and include an outreach component for the broader community.
Successful EFBC projects in 2008 included:
Improved recycling efforts at Sullivan's Island Elementary School
Outreach about water conservation at Jennie Moore Elementary School
Renovation of the butterfly garden at James B. Edwards Elementary School
Creation of a portable garden at Ashley River creative Arts Elementary School
