Four very responsible and dedicated young people recognized a need to help their neighbors become more environmentally aware. Sandy Shultz, Larissa Ali, Melissa Ali, and Jeremiah Ali decided to tackle recycling and use of CFLs. The students requested and received a grant from the Erie Community Foundation to help with their efforts. With this grant, they purchased recycle containers from Suburban Equipment, which also donated containers, and light bulbs from Wal-Mart. The students worked in partners to deliver the containers and light bulbs to the neighborhood families. The students gave laminated dos and don’ts of recycling to make it easier for each family. The initial goal was to reach twelve families but the group was able to educate and help twenty four families with recycling goals.
